So the past couple weeks have been kinda weird for me. I found out a couple weeks ago my grandma, who along with my uncle are probably the only two members of my family who actually understand and completely accept me, has lung cancer. Although I've never seen her smoke, apparently all my grandparents did from the 40's until the 80's when me and my brother were born and my mom made them quit or threatened they would never see their grandkids. Which probably explains why they're all getting cancer. I was pretty wrecked when I found out and thank G-d I have the most loving, understanding friends in the world, or else I'd probably still be crying hysterically. Anyway, the reason I'm mentioning this is my grandma had her surgery today to remove one of her lungs. I got a call from my mom saying she was ok, there aren't any breathing tubes or respirators like they thought she was gonna need, which is good. But also while they were in there the doctor found more cancer on her windpipe so they had to remove some of that too, which was unexpected since she had a biopsy two weeks ago on her throat and the nodules were benign. But he says he's pretty sure he got in all, even though she's still gonna need chemo and possibly some radiation. I'm going to see her after work today, and to be honest I'm terrified. My grandma is without a doubt the matriarch of our family, the rock that we all gather our strength from. I can't imagine seeing her this way, or how hard its gonna be seeing her go through chemo and radiation. And then I think what a selfish bitch I am for thinking about how I'M gonna deal with this and not how my grandma will get through it. Meh, I don't even know what I'm talking about anymore. Guess I should get back to work. |

So I was reading an article about this whole Mel Gibson debauchery and it was one of those places where people could write comments, and some of them really pissed me off. I can't beleive how many people were saying it was no big deal and that "everyone says stupid shit when they're drunk." Call me crazy, but to me, stupid shit is "I just peed my pants" ir "I want chocolate and porn!", NOT hate filled, slandorous bullshit about an entire religon. I don't understand how anyone can justify his comments as no big deal, espeically with his history towards anti-Semestism.
And another major thing that's been nagging at me for a while; why is it so hard for people to distinguish between Israelis and Jews? Not all Jews are Israelis and not all Israelis are Jews, and yet the two always seemed to be used interchangeably. SInce I'm obviously talking about myself lets just put it out there: Yes I am Jewish, but I am NOT Israeli, nor do I support the current Israeli army's actions in Lebannon. It'd be really nice if people would stop asking me why "my people" are bombing innocent people, when I don't support the action or even identify myself as a member of that group. I'm an AMERICAN Jew. You wanna ask me why "my people" invaded Iraq, fine (another move I didn't support but that's beside the point in this rant) but don't automatically assume just becuase I'm Jewish I support Israel and whatever its government does. |

So, strictkly stemming from my boredom I give you a meme! I'm pretty sure I've done this one before, and I know its been done w/ songs too, but I always find it fun. So, meme time!! Yay!!

Courtesy of my favorite lj community of all time, ohnotheydidnt:
McKellen to share an on-screen kiss with star of The Office
Ricky Gervais, who stars as struggling actor Andy Millman in the sitcom Extras, will share an onscreen kiss with Sir Ian McKellen in the new series of the award-winning series, according to The Sun newspaper.
McKellen is just one of the real-life acting superstars Gervais and his writing partner Stephen Merchant have attracted to work on the comedy's second season, which will also star Orlando Bloom and Harry Potter lead Daniel Radcliffe.
Stephen Fry, Ronnie Corbett and The Avengers actress Diana Rigg have also signed up to appear, along with musicians David Bowie and Chris Martin and Australian academic Germaine Greer.
Celebrities have reportedly lined up to star in Extras following the sitcom's successful first series, which guest starred Ben Stiller, Samuel L. Jackson and Kate Winslet. Madonna personally asked Gervais if she could star, but had to pull out because filming clashed with her world tour schedule.
The first season of Extras is slated to premiere on ABC TV later this year
I don't even know where to start on why this is the greatest news ever. *Starts a countdown to the second season of Extras on Netflix* |

Blech, this week has been pretty shitty all around, so I'm pretty pumped its Friday. Tomorrow I'm spending the day w/ Kristin and we're continuing our LOST marathon which is awesome. I love getting people into the show, if only for the selfish purpose of having more people to talk about it with. Plus the first season is so fucking good, its nice to watch it again. Although the last three or so episodes of the new season have been fucking AWESOME, so its nice that they're getting back to being a really good show. I have deemed Sunday in my mind offical cleaning day. Not only am I gonna clean my room, but Im gonna tackle our bathroom, which frankly at this point is just down right disgusting. After sharing a bathroom with two boys for a year and now going back to sharing with two girls, I maintain the theory that girls really are nastier than boys. Gorss.
SO really not much else is going on. I've been unexplicably tired all week long, and it makes my work days seem longer and life just kinda suck a little bit. I accidentally forgot a dentist appt yesterday and both my parents called to yell at me which was awesome, especially the part where my mom called me "the fuck up of the family." Who knew being forgetful so much worse than all the shit my brother's pulled over the years. Oh well, guess you learn something new everyday.
So I still haven't talked to my mom since she screamed at me yesterday. I talked to my dad before my mom and I argued and he gave a measured response to me forgetting, just kinda like "jess you're an ass, reschedule and apologize." Apparently after my mom screamed at me she called my dad, so he called me back to be like "hey, heard mom ripped you a new one, I wasn't really that mad. Call her when you can get to work." Oh yea, did I emtion all this chewing me out and and being called "a fuck up" by my own mother was all happening whilst driving? Yea that was awesome. So when I got to work I called my dad instead, told him I managed to get to the office without fucking it up and haven't talked to either of them since. I don't know if my mom is expected me to call her or what, but I can tell you that's not gonna happen. I'm not really mad or upset anymore like I was yesterday, but I still just don't feel like talking to her for a few days. So yea, we'll see how all that plays out. Allright I think this has wasted enough of my work time, I think I'm gonna sneak out of here early. Half the officealready has so why not me. Lata. |

WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE updating from work!! All three of my bosses have been out of the office all day so I've literally been doing NOTHING. I spent my wntire morning reading a thread on fark.com about the whole Dick Cheney shooting a guy thing, and let me tell you, there are some hilarious people out there. The rest of this entry is mainly just gonna be my favorite quotes I read today, becuase nothing exciting is going on in my actual life and I really found these hilarious, so maybe you will to.
"I wonder how soon this will become a Law and Order episode, 'ripped from the headlines!'"
"Our military is stretched a little thin right now and Cheney has shown both the will adn the ability to shoot another man. Seems to me he could better serve our country in Iraq than in Washington."
The fundamental NRA rules for same gun handling are: 1. ALWAYS keep the gun pointed in a safe direction 2. ALWAYS keep your finger off the trigger until ready to shoot. I don't think Mr. Cheney followed either of these rules, do you? DAMN those liberals at the NRA!!"
"What about the theroy that there could have been another shooter, maybe hiding behind the grassy knoll?"
"The vice president of the United States shot someone in the fucking face. Do you honestly believe that this is only news becuase of some Left-wing media conspiracy? Good rule of them to consider in the future: vice presidents shooting people in the face will generally make the news."
"Was Aaron Burr charged with manslughter? This will be the GOP's defense if the poor guy dies. They'll point out how 200 years ago people killed each other all the time without legal reprecussions."
"The administration is saying that this is a private matter and that the shooting will not be investigated. That doesn't seem fair when Clinton got in so much trouble for shooting that Lewinsky girl in the back of the throat."
"I'd rather hunt with Dick Cheney than ride with Ted Kennedy."
And a final thought: "Whenever something's political, there are two sides. The left is going to pour through Yexas law in an attempt to find all the laws Cheney broke, and the right is gonna blame the victim. As always, the thruth lies somewhere in the middle." |

WHITES are motivated by PEACE, seek independence
and require kindness. They resist
confrontation at all costs. (Feeling good is
more important than being good.) They are
typically quiet by nature, they process
things very deeply and objectively, and they
are by far the best listeners of all the
colors. They respect people who are kind, but
recoil from perceived hostility or verbal
battle.
WHITES need their quiet independence and refuse to
be controlled by others. WHITES want to do
things their own way, in their own time. They
ask little of others, and resent others
demanding much of them. WHITES are much
stronger than people think because they dont
reveal their feelings. WHITES are kind,
non-discriminate, patient and can be
indecisive, timid, and silently stubborn.
When you deal with a WHITE, be kind, accept
(and support) their individuality, and look
for nonverbal clues to their feelings.

So here I am, writing my first entry in a while straight from my desk @ my internship. I'm working for a company called MultiLingual SOlutions and its actually pretty cool. The company is divided into two sectors: Translation and Interpretation and Training Programs. Translation and INterpretation is exactly what it sounds like, it translates documents and provides live interpreters in 90 languages. The stuff I do for them is mostly formatting and word counts, which btw fucking SUCK if they need to be done by hand. The second brach is that the company also provides two week training programs in different areas. For example the one we're working on now is Iraq, so what they do is a little seminar for people who will soon be going over to give them a base in the country and its culture, language, politics, etc. What I get to do for that side is research, which has so far been really fun. Then I also have to do the typical clerical bullshit like answering phones and copying stuff, but overall its a pretty sweet deal.
Not much else is going on right now besides the inetnship. I work 9-5 mon wed and fri, have class tues and thurs morning and then work 12-5 tues and thurs. Doesnt really leave room for much else, but I have a feeling I'm gonna have a whole new appareciation for weekends. COmmuting from CP is a fucking bitch, I have to get up at 7:15 at the absolute LATEST which so so early compared to my usual 10:00 wake up call. But I guess that's growing up. Eek. Anyway that's about it, I cant wait for the new LOST tonight even though it does look like my love is gonna do some crazy shit. Speaking of my soulmate, I have now seen two different sources confirm he and bitch cunt slut whore are engaged, which is just fabulous. OK she's hot, but she can't fucking act, can't he at least be with someone with an OUNCE of talent? Grr, enough fangirlish bullshit, I gotta pretend to look busy for the next 35 minutes and then I'm outta here. Lata bitches! |
